Today is the day we say goodbye to the first city in our trip. Bangkok's been incredible, great way to start. Trial by fire to see if you can get on in Asia.

For the first time in a long time, we were actually up at not too ridiculous o'clock, as we had to get to the airport for our flight. We decided to skip the 'phenomenal' breakfast at the hostel in favour of more packing time, given that we had done none, and weren't the freshest after the night before.

Checking out was painless, although we finally had to pay, and on our way to the airport we were. Given our experience travelling, we're both pretty confident in the old airport. Although the new bag self-check in they have, which requires two members of staff to help you with, seems to be a little inefficient.

From here we went through security, which we assumed would be little less strict on a domestic flight. And maybe it was. But we managed to pick the queue with one scanner, with the other having three.

After far too long, we got through and found the lounge for a nice bit of breakfast. Pleasantly for this lounge it was a Bangkok Airways lounge, so was pretty high class. Fresh cooked duck noodles from the kitchen and a nice range of drinks. They also had a tasty Spanish omelette - the first potato we've seen since we've been here! Agh it's a tough life.

After an hour or so in the lounge we got ready for boarding and actually had a decent sized plane, much bigger than the EasyJet planes. Even though it was only a 70 minute flight, the staff still brought round snacks and drinks for everyone, then three seconds later came around for rubbish.

Chiang Mai Airport did seem a bit less well organised compared to Bangkok, with about 50 different taxi companies trying to vie for our business. We always read never go with taxi's on a fixed price, however after realising no-one seemed to do meter, we settled on the closest. Only a short 15 minute trip to the AirBnB in the Old town.

The apartment wasn't quite what we expected. To put it politely, it was photographed very well. But it's a decent enough space, considering how much time we plan on spending here, small kitchen and bathroom and big bedroom. But the bathroom door is a pretty single pane of glass and slats, not a lot of privacy. Also, the only natural light we can get is opening our bedroom blinds, which looks directly into the next door's bedroom. It wasn't that kind of trip.

First things first is a trip to the local 7-11 for snacks and milk (for the teas, obviously, we've still got some of our Yorkshire Tea from England left). Then the second most important thing was food. Luckily enough, just down the road from us was a local night street food market, so off we toddled for some freshly fried gyoza's and fresh pineapple and mango for dessert.

^^Spot the fast food chain rip off!
